Our Provo SNOW!!

We had almost a foot of snow here. Calvin came home from work one day and we wanted to make a snowman. So we did.  It's 8 feet tall or more.

Also, every year, a huge icicle grows on the west side of our house. This is the longest it has ever grown!

Come One, Come All!

Our Annual Christmas Girl Party!
Monday, Dec 15th-
5:00 at Sue's
(we know it's late notice, but come anyway!)
In the spirit of the season, our party is going to be all about giving!
So, if you're not in the Christmas spirit yet, this will do it!

Here's what we're planning:

  1. A Goodie Exchange: Bring a batch of goodies...we'll pack some up for Sean, and each have a plate to take home!

  2. A Package for Sean: Elder Sean is our only missionary this year. Bring something to fill up his package (i.e. toothpaste, gag gift, etc)

  3. A baby shower for Lauri: Little "Mya Claire Tyson" is now due any minute! (I'm sure her mother hopes she won't even last until Monday!) Bring a gift to help welcome little Mya into the family!

  4. Hygiene Kits for the Humanitarian Center: Instead of a craft this year, we're going to assemble 25 hygiene kits. What better time of year to do this? See information below...

  5. Gift Exchange: We don't want anyone going home empty-handed, so bring a $10.00 wrapped gift and we'll have some fun exchanging them!
Got it all?-Call Sandy or Sue if you don't!

Hygiene Kit Information:

Here is what we need, sign up for what to bring by commenting on the blog, or calling Sandy. If you don't care what you bring, we'll make assignments on Friday night for those who haven't signed up.

Each kit has:

2 unbreakable combs (no sharp handles)

4 toothbrushes (packaged)

1 tube of toothpaste (6-8 oz., no pumps)

2 bars of soap (approximately 4 to 5 oz.)

2 hand towels (new towels, approximately 15" by 25")

So that means we need:

50 combs (you can buy them in packages with lots in them)

100 toothbrushes (check the dollar stores-sometimes there's 4 to a package)

25 tubes of toothpaste (again, the dollar store)

50 bars of soap (ditto)

50 hand towels (Sandy will get these)

Just sign up for whatever you think you can do...it doesn't have to be a lot if you can't...

Let's party!

p.s. this awesome post was actually created by Sandy! I just helped with some technical difficulties!

Lydie's big month

July of 2009 will be a big month for my little Lydie Jo. In that month she will turn 3 and become a big sister! I am 8 weeks and feeling pretty yucky at the moment. We are really excited and a little nervous to have 4 under 6!

That's The Breaks!

Karli Coy took a spill while trying to maneuver a a trick at the skate park on Wednesday night... the result was a triple whammy: A dislocated foot, a broken ankle and a torn ligament! She had surgery yesterday and came home from the hospital today...
True to Karli fashion, she didn't shed a tear until she realized that she wasn't going to be able to use her ski pass to Park City she just got! (Recuperation is 2 months)
She's home for the weekend and will go back to Provo on Monday, where she'll have to figure out how to get around campus and take her finals... (I guess her diving final is out!)
She's been a trouper... I'm sure she'll bounce back quickly!
Love you Sissy, get better soon!

Hey maybe i could take that diving final for you, or Calvin, or better yet...
KOKI! -- NO?
Well then maybe we, (or Josie), could run an errand or 2 for you,
or drive you around to Spoon Me or to our house for frijoles negros...

Let's get together...

It's that time of year again. I figured since my mother and my aunts are all extra-busy this year with full-time jobs and building houses, I better help with our little girls-only Christmas party. So, the first thing that needs to happen is to pick a date...anyone have a preference? In talking with Sandy and my mom the other day we decided that it might be fun (and fulfilling) if we did some kind of service project rather than a craft. We thought about newborn kits or hygeine kits. Please leave your comments and we'll hopefully be able to pull something together. xoxoxox

p.s. So, this picture has nothing to do with my post. It's just cute!

HEY - great pic, cal! i didn't even recognize it as your hand right away - have you ever graced us with a prior post???... but luckily maya was right next to me viewing my every move with one eye and commenting on the parade with the other. we saw it an hour ago when i opened email instead of the recipe for yummy stuff i'll be taking to the gathering of guatemalans in centerville later on...
Then i had to wander off, now i'm back on the couch - still no open pie recipe, maya left me as soon as i wouldn't relenquesh my laptop to her! - off to check her email elsewhere... but Josie joined me! I showed her your hand, then here we've been relishing the marvelous moment. she endured grocery shopping with me yesterday... and here we were, just the 2 of us - unbreakfasted... Sooo, i said, "josie, grab 2 of the haagen dazs and 2 spoons!" - she with her 'peppermint bark' and i with my 'mocha chip' (my kids tell me i'm not a mormon when i eat mocha flavored anything - oh DARN, they won't want me to share any!) ---- but head's up to any ord's with an albertson's anywhere near you - haagen dazs are 3 for 10 and they count towards a total that gets you a free DVD!! (i guess we should've bought more than 4!! - but we still got 'WALL-E' FREE thanks to other more practical items from their list) --- Am i rambling?? how odd!
But just so you all know... Gratefully, i have many memories hard-wired in this vast brain of mine! Among them are those of Thanksgiving mornings on Prospect St -
...I roll out of bed just after 7 and head to the kitchen, rubbing my eyes. Dad has already transformed the space into a magical place... His white chef's apron is on; having stuffed, sewn, buttered, and seasoned his bird, he's ready to put it in the upper oven. He greets me, and fills me in on what i've missed of the parade. It's on in the background on the 'portable' rabbit eared black and white that he's brought in from his study - a precious square foot in total size. With the bird baking, his efforts are back on his precious pies... - only 2 kinds he likes, you know, 'hot pie & cold pie'...
A shout out of gratitude to Dad and his great attitude!! not to mention Annie Claire who patiently taught him the pie process/art... and a hooray to whomever taught her the same, perhaps 'Grandma white-haired White'??
Love to you ALL, hope you gather and enjoy today!!!

Mine Field

The other night, Papá's patcience was running thin with Ashton, to the point that he was throwing shoes. Mom asked him to go get on his thermal pijamas, and Ashton turns to her and says "I can't, because it's a mine field of Papá's shoes!" I couldn't keep from laughing! It was so so funny!

Ord Boys Ord Boys, Whatcha Gonna Do When They Come For You

The title of this picture should be Somebody (don't) Stop Me.  Of course the patriarch of the family put everyone to shame when it came time to let the ice cream eating do the talking...Grandpa is absolutely Olympic!

It was great to have the SoCal Ords come to visit the NorCal Ords for Graham's return to the Bay area.  We had a great time in the city where we walked across the Golden Gate and found chocolate nirvana at Ghiradelli Square.  Thanks for all the wonderful sentiment welcoming our youngest back home!  We love you all.

My The-Very-First Post

Hello Dearest Familia!
Calvin is singing "number one, number one, number one, number one..." in the back ground. Oh no, he's saying "Hey!" Anyway, this is my first post in the blogosphere. I've commented before, but since I've been able to post since JUNE, I'd better get to it sometime. As nothing is happening in my life besides school, there isn't much to say. Welcome home to Elder Ord, and much love to all.
So there that is.

Big News!

I just wanted to let you all know that we are having another boy!  Sam is trilled to have a brother and Ella just doesn't really know the difference between a boy an a girl anyway.  I think Jared is extremely happy to not add more estrogen to the home.  The ultrasound showed that he is healthy and that is the most important thing of all.  We are excited to meet the little guy around March 12th.

m o r e ~ a s ~ p r o m i s e d

OK, Let's see who of y'all is glancing at this blog these days!
Maybe it's even your lucky day to POST something...
Because hey people - if I can, YOU can too!

Here's a little fun for those of you youngins under 30...
Which one of you, (except for Maya - who already knows all) -
can righta-pronto post a comment naming the 4 precious
Sargeant cousins in the 3 pictures below??

Yes, you're right, that's Uncle Dan, but who is with him?
Here are some hints for you:
~ They ALL came to Tyson's cabin
2 short months ago!
~ The cutie on Dan's shoulders is also with his

even cutier 'swin tister' * below.

~ And Mr. Dimples below has certainly 'grown a foot or two' since 1964.
In fact, one of our 'terms of endearment' for him

starts with BIG and ends with _ _ _ _.

... On your mark, get set, GO!

* as Dad/Bob/Grandpa would say...

Hey, now there's a great idea for YOUR post!
- just a bunch of phases that you've heard him say
more than twice through the years.

For example: finish this - "It's colder than a...
Or how about: "Mardon me padom, but you are...

testing testing

Posted by Picasa
OK - So i'm told that in the summer of '64 Mom, Grandma B, and the 5 of us piled in the station wagon and drove to Canada! I don't remember any of the traveling, I don't remember any of the beautiful stops and sights that i recently saw in the home movie...
I remember a couple of random things that could be real or imagined!
I remember feeling happy being in the home of our fun cousins (Uncle Perry and Gang - a couple of photos to follow) -and that a HUGE "wheel" of cheddar cheese wrapped in red orange wax was delivered to them while we were there.
At the Hall family reunion (Grandma B & her dozen siblings)- Sandra, Sue, & I sang "Puff the Magic Dragon" in matching dresses that grandma had sewn for us.
I remember that we went to the "Calgary Stampede" and that i'd never seen any rodeo type events prior to that.
Yes, random...
But WAY more importantly, ever since last Thursday evening when we gathered at Sue's to review some DVD's of old home movies, I've been feeling more and more grateful for GREAT PARENTS!!
...And realizing how FAR I still have to go (as a parent) by comparison!
'Bob & Donna' not only went to the trouble and expense of taking us on vacations and allowed us to participate in all types of activities, but they also made sure they captured much of those memories on FILM!!!
For 20 years Dad made sure he had rolls of film on hand; he used & cared for his equiptment, hassled with having film developed, then spliced, labeled, and kept track of it all!
-Several reels he's had for over 50 years. I think the oldest was filmed in '56 or '57 and the last was probably my high school graduation in '77 (one roll that unfortunately ended up in my possession, because i know i saw it in some box of mine in the past year... but i have no idea which one).
And another thing... our parents made those sacrifices while we argued, complained, and focused on what we still wanted rather than all we'd been given!
Lastly... seeing all these movies of MOM; smiling, connecting, loving, living - Just has me wanting to be around her again! I grin from ear to ear as i watch her - then think of her later in a quiet moment and cry. It's painful - but sweet and essential at the same time...

So Sorry

I've been so busy. There was Olivia & Ben's reception, then school started. I've had lots of homework since school started. My teacher gave us homework on the first day of school. In fact I just barely finished my homework. I heard from my mom that some of you have missed my posts. I LOVE my teachers! Taking care of Ashton has sort of been a challange for me. I almost lost him 8 tmes in 2 weeks! He never knows what bus to get on so I try to get him straight from his classroom. His teachers have been so helpful with that. So anyway, I'll try to keep you updated. Tons of people say I should get my own blog. I don't know.
Loves,
Maya

Family Tree

Check out what my very talented sister did for me. It's the wall above my couch in the family room and will have 4x6 framed family photos hung on it in the near future (I'll post another pic for you all to admire). I absolutely love it! I can't wait to get all the pictures gathered and hung. Thanks Linds!
